When I am in my studio I paint for myself. When I was younger I worked first in oils and then in watercolor and pastels. More recently, acrylics and latex emulsion, and now, I am back to my first love, oils. All of these media have elements about them that I enjoy and that I am challenged by. In my studio I have started a new series called my "Memories" series, which employs my artistic knowledge gained from working from figures and en plein air while I depict memories that some people might think or write about, but, that I paint about. When the weather permits, I paint en plein air. The results are far more satisfactory than painting from photographs. The resulting spontaneous paint application and color is far more exciting and en plein air work has more light and depth. In addition to painting locally in eastern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts, I have painted in Provence, Lubec, Campobello, Monhegan Island, and New Orleans. I also recently spent time in Venice where I took numerous photographs … and yes … I will be painting from them. The crowds there made painting en plein air, impossible. My bag of painting supplies and panels was never opened! Welcome To My Studio!
