My earliest memories as a very small child are of drawing and coloring. I copied the drawings of figures modeling clothing in newspapers all of the time. I wasn't yet in grade school. My love for drawing faces and figures started at a very young age. My parents recognized my passion and encouraged it. I was studying oil painting with Newburyport's premier muralist, Richard Gibney, starting at the age of nine through high school. I cleaned his brushes as payment for the classes. Our primary focus was painting the figure along with some portraiture. I knew, even before I went to high school, that creating art was fundamental to who I was. I sold my first painting when I was twelve and attended classes at The Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston on Saturdays during my senior year in high school.
After high school I attended the University of New Hampshire majoring in Fine art and studying with the great John Hatch, my mentor, and other notable artists. I completed my Magnum Opus my junior year - moving from oils to acrylics and then to watercolors. I remained a part time watercolorist while I was a stay-at-home mom, and later, when I entered the corporate world where I worked hard climbing the corporate ladder eventually becoming a Vice President and Organizational Development Specialist. There was no time for full time art and I missed it terribly.
In 1996 I stepped down from that level and worked in a small financial planning office for three years learning a great deal about finance and business development. In 1999, a good friend, Christine Butcher, an exceptional faux finish artist asked me to help her paint a mural for one of her clients. That did it! I discovered that I loved painting on other people's walls and in 2001, after working all week and waiting for the weekends to paint on art projects, I took the plunge and "dropped out" and became a full time artist. Creating art is fundamental to who I am and that move made me a very whole and happy person.
More recently I have studied at The Finishing School in NYC with the great Pascal Amblard, a well-known European Muralist, and attend workshops with the very accomplished Adeline Goldminc-Tronzo. My paintings are in homes throughout the United States and my murals, Trompe l'Oeils, and decorative art work are in homes throughout the Northeast and Florida.
I live in Rye, NH with my husband, Dick Jones, where I have my studio that is open to the public by appointment and where I teach semi-private adult classes in all media.
